BMW 7 Series M Sport images arrive on web

BMW 7 Series M Sport

We're not sure where they came from, but official-looking images of the upcoming BMW 7 Series M Sport just popped up on the interwebs today. The car you see here is identical to the one we saw in spy photos just a few weeks ago. Since the M6 will reportedly remain the brand's top dog in terms of big performance cars, the 7 Series M Sport will be to the standard 7 Series what all M Sport models are. That is, it gets more aggressive fascias front and rear, unique wheels, an M steering wheel, M shifter and M footrest. Rumor also has it that the 7 Series M Sport will be powered by the brand's newly updated 3.0-liter, twin-turbo diesel engine producing 306 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. No, it's still not an M7, but if you want a lightning quick 7 Series, you can go buy an Alpina B7 Biturbo for now.

What a BMW Audi R8 rival could look like

2009 BMW Concept Design

Many of us have grown very impatient waiting for BMW to come out with a competitor to the Audi R8. When BMW came out with the M1 Hommage Concept, it gave us hope that BMW was finally going to offer an R8 competitor; however, we have yet to hear anything official from BMW.

Automotive artist Idries Noah became just as impatient as us and decided to design his own version of BMW R8 rival.

“So elements like the trademark grille and hockey stick pillar remain. My inspiration for this design however came from nature. More specifically water and the way it flows and ripples. The side detailing was inspired by what’s called in surfing terms “a Barrel or Tube”. It’s where the wave is hollow when it breaks.”

Noah says that the car would be the same size as the R8 and would feature a 5.0L V10 found in the M5 and M6.

G-Power BMW M3 Tornado gets 500-hp

G-Power has given the world some outstanding modified BMW vehicles including the M6 Hurricane, X5 Tycoon, M5 Hurricane and G4 EVO III Z4. Now, G-Power has set its sights on the new BMW M3 and has introduced, what they call, the G-Power M3 Tornado.

G-Power used a soft charging with just 0.3 bar boost, which increases output of the M3 to 500-hp with a maximum torque of 354 lb-ft. The boost of extra power comes from a G-Power supercharger system, the T1-518 ASA centrifugal supercharger. That very supercharger is also used by Alpina on the B5S, B6S and the B7.

All that extra power allows the M3 Tornado to go from 0 to 124 mph in 13.5 seconds and lets you keep going above 200 mph.

Press Release:

Supercharger system provides the BMW M3 with 500 hp and a top speed of more than 320 km/h

For the current BMW M3, G-POWER offers an exquisite supercharger system that sets new standards in regards of design, quality and performance. Using gentle soft charging with just 0,3 bar (relative) boost, the output of the V8 engine is pushed from 420 hp to 500 hp and the torque increases from 400 Nm up to 480 Nm.

After 9 months of intensive development, starting with the CAD design, followed by prototyping and completed with test drives and hot climate tests in the United Arab Emirates, the result is awesome.

500 hp and 480 Nm of torque, achieved through gentle soft charging with just 0,3 bar (relative) boost, let the BMW M3 appear completely changed. Already from 3.000 rpm on the supercharged G-POWER M3 TORNADO pulls like the standard BMW M3 revving twice as much, but than the G-POWER M3 TORNADO really starts to flex its muscles: from 5.000 rpm on until redline the G-POWER M3 TORNADO provides constantly about 20 % more torque than the factory car, this provides an acceleration that feels like being dragged by a bungee cord.

This output explosion is based on the heart of the G-POWER supercharger system, the all new T1-518 ASA centrifugal supercharger. By the way the ASA superchargers are being used in the ALPINA models B5S, B6S and B7 as well, just like the ALPINA B6 GT3 race car, in witch the chargers could state there impressive quality and reliability during 3.500 km in the “Green Hell” of the Nürburgring at the 24th hour race on may 23rd and 24th!

The exclusive use of components meeting OEM standards is one of the basic elements of the G-POWER philosophy and one of the secrets for the extraordinary quality, reliability and performance of the G-POWER products.

For its mission in the G-POWER M3 TORNADO the ASA T1-518 has been literally been tailor-made, to provide the giant need for fresh air of the up to 8.300 rpm revving 4.0 litre V8 engine. But the ASA supercharger, flanged to the engine using a CNC-milled high-strength mount, is not the only high-tech component of the G-POWER M3 supercharger system. The engineers did not spare any cost or efforts during the development of this supercharger system. Amongst others they even did a sophisticated, computer aided simulation which analyses the conditions of the air-ducting engine parts. The defined goal of this extensive research is to improve the efficiency of the G-POWER supercharger system to the best possible performance. And the result proofs us right. The G-POWER supercharger system is capable of reducing the specific fuel consumption of the engine. This shows that we do not only care about performance but are concerned of the sensitive use of restricted resources like fuel, as well.

A further key figure, next to the supercharger, in the G-POWER supercharger system is the complete aluminium cast, large volume air box, including 8 lightweight integral resonance induction pipes, that is responsible for the perfect throttle response and optimal torque curve. The G-POWER M3 supercharger system is completed by the large air-to-air intercooler that is located in the vehicles front, which cools the boost temperature down to an output optimal level under all circumstances.

Of course the performance figures benefit from this huge output improvement. The figure from stand still to 200 km/h improves from 15,8 seconds (stock, 6-speed manual) to 13,5 seconds (SKI).

On demand we can enable an unlimited top speed according to the capacity of the tyres. In combination with the 20 inch G-POWER SILVERSTONE DIAMOND wheels and the MICHELIN Pilot Sport tyres in the dimension 255/30 ZR 20 and 295/25 ZR 20, a top speed of more than 320 km/h can be achieved. Especially designed for the BMW models, the G-POWER SILVERSTONE Alloy Wheel forms a contrast to the great mass of other aftermarket wheels, due to the successful combination of double spokes and the “concave design” typical of G-POWER. The G-POWER “diamond cut” provides for the fascinating dynamic appearance of the G-POWER SILVESTONE rim, in contrast to the silver-graphite coated rim body and the bolt applications of stainless steel. An additional feature of the G-POWER SILVERSTONE rim is its weight-optimised design that allows a low rim weight with the same stability, compared to other standard wheels. A perceptibly improved impression of convenience and a considerably increased agility accompany the minimisation of the unsprung mass: advantages of the G-POWER SILVERSTONE rim, which you can factually experience above all in connection with low-profile tyres. Further improvement of the road handling is realized through the continuously height-adjustable G-POWER coil-over suspension G3M-RS with nine selectable settings each for bound and rebound.

Next to the output and the suspension of the BMW M3, G-POWER has taken care of the sound, as well. The G-POWER 4-trim sport rear muffler with its 4 x 83 mm tailpipes gives the BMW V8 a deep, throaty sound that turns heads but is at now time annoying. The G-POWER M3 rear muffler is available made from stainless steel or completely out of Titanium which is 14,5 kg lighter than the factory part.

The interior is upgraded by G-POWER with precious carbon panels, a speedometer with G-POWER logo scaled to 360 km/h, a sporty aluminium pedal set and on demand a tailor-made leather interior. The exclusivity of each G-POWER M3 TORNAD is documented with a special badge in the interior and on the supercharger system that features the G-POWER serial number.

Official pricing for BMW X5M and X6M leaks out

BMW X5MBy: Chris Shunk

The BMW X5M and X6M are all about excess. Excess power (if that's possible), excess girth, and, as we already knew, excess cost. BimmerFile is reporting that the X5M will ding your budget to the tune of $85,400, while the X6M will set you back $88,900. And anyone that has ever priced out a Bimmer with options knows that those prodigious figures are only the baseline of what will no doubt be two even more expensive BMWs.
But for nearly $90,000, you get what, for now, are the two most powerful BMWs on the road. Both models will reap the benefits of a 555 hp, 500 lb-ft twin turbo 4.4L V8. That's 55 hp and 105 lb-ft more than the M5 or M6; two vehicles that cost more than their crossover counterparts. The M treatment will also add more aggressive aesthetics, torque-vectoring AWD, and massive 15.6 inch front rotors to help these flying bricks stop on a dime (or 900,000 dimes, really). Does that make the X5M and X6M a compelling value? If you're in the market for a 550 hp crossover, we guess so, because outside of the substantially more expensive Porsche Cayenne Turbo S ($124,000) these new Bimmers are the only other family-haulers with that kind of muscle.

2009 G-Power BMW M6 Hurricane CS

(from G-Power Press Release) World record: BMW Coupe with a top speed of 370 km/h. Creating the ultimate BMW, nothing less was the set target for the G-POWER engineers when they started to design 2009 G-POWER BMW M6 HURRICANE CS. The starting basis for this project is the currently most exclusive model in the BMW product range, the BMW M6. Due to the combination of this fantastic basis with the technical innovative products of G-POWER, it was able to create a sports car of superlatives. Powered by a V10 SK III RS twin-supercharger engine with 750 hp / 552 kW, which enabled the G-POWER world record car to achieve a top speed of 367,4 km/h, the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS has got what it takes to be a member of the super car league.
2009 G-Power BMW M6 Hurricane CS-12009 G-Power BMW M6 Hurricane CS-2

Further characteristics of the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS is the multipart widebody kit, the high performance Carbon-Ceramic break system, the individually adjustable suspension kit and last but not least the nifty 21 inch G-POWER wheels with MICHELIN tyres. After the G-POWER M5 HURRICANE RS broke the world record for the fastest sedan, G-POWER developed this idea to use this potential to build the world’s fastest BMW coupe, the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS.
For this project, the redesigned twin supercharger system of the world record car for the fast-revving V10 was used. Compared to the standard system, both belt-driven ASA T1-313 superchargers, each providing charge air for one cylinder bank, were replaced by larger ASA T1-316 models. They have the capacity to increase the volume of charge air by up to 25 percent but only a fraction of that was utilized in this engine. The air volume these chargers are capable of would theoretically be sufficient for a rated power output in excess of 900 hp.
The inner workings of the ten-cylinder four-valve engine are optimized with forged high-performance pistons from Mahle that reduce compression. They have been precisely matched for weight and are much stronger than their production counterparts. The production piston rods and pins also had to make way for special components that can handle the much higher forces.
Further optimized mapping of the engine electronics also contributes to the increased power output of 750 hp / 552 kW, available between 7,500 and 8,000 rpm. The engine delivers its peak torque of 800 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS sets new performance records not just for top speed with more than 370 km/h. With sprint times of less than 4.4 seconds from rest to 100 km/h, 9.6 seconds to 200 km/h and 26 seconds to 300 km/h the nearly two-ton coupe is at the head of the pack in these categories as well.
The G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS can be ordered as a complete car starting at 360.000 Euros.

The world's fastest BMW coupe? 230 mph G-Power M6 Hurricane CS

The G-Power crew is constantly striving to produce the most insane BMWs on the planet, combining forced induction with thoroughly revised suspensions and aerodynamics to attain completely unreasonable speeds. It's latest creation, the BMW M6 Hurricane CS, takes the standard set by its M5-based Hurricane RS, and straps a duo of superchargers onto the 5.0-liter V10, boosting the coupe's output to 740 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
Combined with a remapped ECU and a titanium exhaust, along with carbon fiber seats and a few other tweaks to reduce the curb weight by around 100 pounds, the CS can run to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, to 124 mph in 9.6 seconds, 187 in 26 seconds and on to a claimed top speed of 230 mph – making it the fastest road-going BMW coupe on Earth.
In addition to the twin superchargers and bespoke body-kit, G-Power fitted the CS with carbon ceramic brakes at all four corners, with the front discs measuring in at 380mm and clamped by six-piston calipers. A coil-over suspension with nine adjustable settings joins front and rear anti-roll bars, and for a scant 390,000 euros, it can be yours. All the details can be found in the press release below the fold.

BMW G-Power M6 Hurricane CS

World record: G-POWER introduces fastest BMW Coupe with a top speed of 370 km/hCreating the ultimate BMW, nothing less was the set target for the G-POWER engineers when they started to designe the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS.
Further characteristics of the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS is the multipart widebody kit, the high performance Carbon-Ceramic break system, the individually adjustable suspension kit and last but not least the nifty 21 inch G-POWER wheels with MICHELIN tyres.
After the G-POWER M5 HURRICANE RS broke the world record for the fastest sedan, G-POWER developed this idea to use this potential to build the world's fastest BMW coupe, the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS.
For this project, the redesigned twin supercharger system of the world record car for the fastrevving V10 was used.
The pre-compressed air from both superchargers is cooled for maximum power yield in a dualflow water-to-air intercooler painted G-POWER orange. This sophisticated cast-aluminum component replaces the stock airbox above the engine. Because of its close proximity to the engine it produces the same instant throttle response as the production engine, albeit with considerably more torque.
The inner workings of the ten-cylinder four-valve engine are optimized with forged highperformance pistons from Mahle that reduce compression.
Two tons and a top speed of 370 km/h naturally place extreme demands on the tires, which were mounted on G-POWER light-alloy wheels. Technology partner Michelin provided highperformance Pilot Sport PS2 tires in sizes 255/35 ZR 19 in front and 305/30 ZR 19 on the rear axle.
These tires were the only ones capable of handling the extreme stress. In everyday driving the GPOWER M6 HURRICANE CS runs on 21-inch Silverstone Diamond wheels with size 255/30 ZR 21 and 295/25 ZR 21 tires, due to the capacity of the tires the top speed has to be limited to 340 km/h, than.
In addition to the most powerful BMW engine ever to power a street-legal BMW, favorable aerodynamic properties were of elementary importance. The needed body kit has to fulfill to function at once. First of all it has to generate enough down force to keep the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS on the ground at speeds of more than 300 km/h and secondly it responsible for transform the standard BMW M6 into a super sports car.
That is why G-POWER designed a unique widebodykit made entirely from carbon fibre. In addition to producing the desired downforce it is also designed to supply much more cooling air. It consists of front apron, bonnet with vents, rocker panels, wheel arche attachments, rear aprons with diffusor and a rear spoiler wing.
At the same time G-POWER puts the BMW M6 on a diet and makes it lose weight bit by bit. The biggest share is taken by the G-POWER complete exhaust system made entirely form titan which lets the dynamic back pressure drop just like the weight. 24 kg are saved compared to the standard exhaust system.
In the vehicle interior G-POWER switches the standard front seats against racing seats made from carbon fibre, which ensure a perfect support for the drive in its fight against the centrifugal forces. Of course these seats are lighter than the standard seats as well and again the M6 has lost 24 kg.
Weight neutral, but not without effects is the G-POWER suspension package CLUBSPORT. It optimizes the road handling of the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS to perfection and is consisting of the continuously height-adjustable G-POWER coil-over RS suspension with nine selectable settings each for bound and rebound and the G-POWER anit-roll-bar kit for front and rear axle.
The option list of the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS ends with a true highlight: a Carbon-Ceramic break system with 6-piston calibres and brake discs with 380 mm in diameter. This heavy duty brake system delivers declaration rates beyond the gravity on a constant rate and at the same time are 50% lighter than the standard brakes.
The standout cockpit of the G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS features a speedometer with 400-km/h scale, clear-coated carbon-fiber panels for dash, center console and doors, as well as an ergonomically shaped G-POWER sport steering wheel with especially pleasant perforated Kjerba Nappa leather.
The G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS can be ordered as a complete car starting at 360.000 Euros.
G-POWER was founded in 1983 and concentrates exclusively on the tuning of BMW automobiles.
The company celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008. Today it is among the most reputable brands in the global tuning market. G-POWER sets itself apart from the competition with the most powerful important BMW engines developed in-house.

G Power has created the fastest version BMW M6

The German tuning studio G Power specialising on operational development of cars of mark BMW, has created the fastest version of coupe M6. According to the studio data, the maximum speed of a sport car makes over 370 km/h. G-Power M6 Hurricane CS is completed by the same 10-cylinder engine V10 SK III RS with double forced aspiration, as M5 Hurricane CS.
Let's remind that the last was possible manage 367,6 km/h, for what last year it has been awarded ranks of the fastest sedan in the world. Exact maximum speed tuning M6 yet is not informed, however it should be above, than at M5, as M6 Hurricane CS has the best aerodynamic characteristics. Besides, it is known that the maximum twisting moment of the engine is equal 800 Nanometers at 5000 ob./minutes. In studio have reduced weight of a sports coupe at the expense of a new exhaust system, seats and a suspender. Tuning M6 is equipped by 19-inch wheel disks from light-metal alloys with tyres Micheline Pilot Sport PS2. The speedometer on a sport coupe is marked to 400 km/h. Car cost will begin from 360 000 euros.

BMW may have its own tuning division that carries its vaunted M badge, but Alpina enjoys a close relationship of its own with the Bavarian automaker. Alpina's tuner cars are built right off the BMW assembly line and available directly through BMW dealerships. One of the largest tuner firms in the industry, Alpina is preparing to debut two of its newest offerings at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March.
First up to bat is the B6 GT3, the racer with which Alpina has returned to motorsport competition after a 20-year absence. Those details have already been released, but joining the race-tuned 6 Series is tipped to be the new B7, Alpina's take on the latest F01-generation BMW 7 Series sedan that's anticipated to pull over 500 horsepower out of its centrifugal-supercharged 4.4-liter V8. So far, all we've seen is a teaser sketch and a raft of speculation on the supercharged 7, but we'll be looking forward to getting more solid information as we get closer to the Swiss show in the coming weeks..

BMW M6 CSL - why not?

BMW went into deep into "M" car history with the M1 Hommage, but that wasn't as far as it could have. Racer X Design decided to go back to the beginning, and make a modern interpretation of the first car to wear the "M" badge with the M6 CSL. Although design studies are not our favorite on TopSpeed, Racer X is a real design house, and has made something pretty striking. It took the current BMW M6 and added the livery from the original 70s 3.0 CSL. But the best part of this design is (...)

BMW M Fleet unveiled at the Jerez Moto GP

Back at the Qatar MotoGP, BMW introduced for the first time, the X6 M Safety Car, which will be used along with other M vehicles at the MotoGP European races this year. Today, BMW  used the Jerez MotoGP motorbike race to show off the entire official MotoGP safety Car fleet.

Prior to the race today, the starting grid at Jerez showcased the assembly of the full BMW Safety Car. Along with the safety cars, twelve X6 M shuttles will be serving special VIP guests.

BMW X6 M fleet at Jerez GP

As you might recall, the BMW X6 M was unveiled last month at the New York Auto Show and it is powered by a V8 M Twin-Turbo engine producing 555 horsepower. Alongside it on each MotoGP grid continues to be the still amazing BMW M6 which outputs 507 horsepower from its V10 engine.

On related news, the Race Director Paul Butler now has a BMW M5 Touring at his disposal for official duties, with the Medical Car a 330i Touring. A brand new M3 Sedan has been given to the Safety Officer Claude Danis.

The Race Stewards have the use of an X5 4.8i, but that is not the end of the mouthwatering BMW presence at the track. The front of each Grand Prix grid will feature a brand new BMW S 1000 RR and a BMW HP 2 Sport as Safety Bikes.

Talk about great PR for BMW!

Week 1: BMW of the Week

2877026193_90012d5119_b

Last week we launched our most recent innitiative on bringing the BMW and BMWBLOG community even closer. To accomplish this, we setup a BMWBLOG Group page on the popular photo sharing site, Flickr.com, and we asked you, our readers, to submit your BMW photos. Despite the fact that it was a soft launch and without much buzz around it, our group received over 130 photos from people all over the world and most important, with so many distinctive BMW models, from old school bimmers to the more modern ones.

As we promised back then, every week, we will choose one car to be featured in our articles and the criteria will be very diversified, one week we might focus on BMW history, other week on the best photo and so on and so forth. In my opinion, everyone will have a chance to have their  car featured at one point since we will be going back each week and scan through all the photos. Yes yes, we know, lots of work, but I believe it is worth it. As far as we’re concern, we can already see the benefit of this BMWBLOG photo group since we have had the opportunity to see some great cars out there.

So…..the BMW of this week….is actually a whole group of bimmers who belong to Christiaan Conover and Chris Wilkinson. He shared with us his collection of BMWs and it was a tough call to choose the best one, from the classy and still beautiful 1974 BMW 2002, to one of the most amazing Ms ever built, 1987 E24 M6 and 1992 E36 325iS.

Next week, we’ll go back to the pool and pick another bimmer, so feel free to keep submitting the photos. We also hope that you appreciate this initiative of bringing our readers together and most important, to share the beauty of our cars.

Jalopnik drives the 2009 BMW Z4

The first 2009 BMW Z4 reviews are starting to come out, shortly after the press launch that took place yesterday in California. While we’re still waiting for our turn to drive the new roadster, we can’t let you wait and we’ll share with you all the test drives we come across.

Let’s start with our friends at Jalopnik:

For one, the new Z4 is manufactured in Germany. The fit and finish and quality of materials is far beyond that of the old Z4, now on par with the 3- and 5-Series. It’s also a bigger car, with noticeably more room in both the passenger cabin and trunk. Then there’s the new, all-aluminum folding roof.

Up, the roof lends the Z4 all the refinement of a coupe — conversation is easy even close to the vehicle’s top speed — without the traditional downsides of a folding hard top. Vision is excellent with no oversize blind spots. That’s thanks to tiny rear 3/4 windows that retract into the car’s body instead of the doors.

There’s 10.9 cubic feet of room in the trunk with the top up and a still-very-useful 6.4 cubic feet with the top stowed. That top is really good-looking too, replacing the awkward shapes of most hard tops with Gurney bubbles that mirror the hood’s twin power bulges. The top’s not as nice to look at as the old coupe’s, but the rest of the car looks so much better the ducktail isn’t missed.

Of course, like all great BMW’s, the Z4 M coupe wasn’t about performance numbers, it was about handling. Everyone’s going to think that I’m crazy when I say this, but the 2009 Z4 has it beat there too. Where the Z4 M was a one-trick pony — great at corners, but harsh everywhere else — the new car is at least as capable without sacrificing a smooth ride.

BMW X5M and X6M Officially Revealed: 73 High-Res Photos of 555HP V8 Crossovers

It's the moment power-hungry crossover lovers have been waiting for; Munich has officially swiped the covers off its first ever M-prepped "X"models, the X5M and the X6M. Without any doubt, these are the most divisive models ever to wear the M badge. However, BMW vows that both crossovers feature all the typical sport characteristics one would expect from an M-badged model. Under the hood, this translates to an all-new 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that cranks out 555HP at 6,000 rpm and a whopping 680Nm or 501-lbs/ft of peak torque available between 1,500 and 5,650 rpm.
Those figures put to shame the M5's and M6's 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V10 that generates 507HP and 520Nm or 383-lbs/ft of peak torque. But no need to worry as from what our sources tell us, the new twin-scroll turbo V8 will replace the V10 in the next generation M5 and M6 models.
For the first time in a BMW M model, the X5M's and X6M's V8 is matted to a six-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel. Both models retain BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system, though it has been revamped to distribute more power to the rear wheels.
In terms of performance, both M models accelerate to 100 km/h (62mph) from a standstill in 4.7 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph) or 275km/h (171mph) with the optional "M Driver's Package".
BMW's M division engineers have also performed upgrades on the X5's and X6's suspension setup as well as on the Dynamic Performance Control, the Servotronic steering system and the brakes which now combine four-piston fixed calipers at the front with floating calipers at the rear, with internally-vented and larger discs.
Cosmetic changes are common for both models. On the outside they include a new bodykit that consists of new front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, side gills, quad exhaust tail pipes and 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the X5M and X6M feature the usual M-branded sport steering wheel and leather seats as well as a revised instrument panel.
