HAMANN releases tuning package for the 2009 BMW 7-Series

Hamann has just released a modification program for the new 2009 BMW 7-Series, giving it a more aggressive look with more power.

Visual enhancements include a new front skirt, rear spoiler, roof spoiler, new Hamann side skirts and four round stainless steel end pipes. Of course no visual upgrade is complete without a new set of wheels. Hamann has added their aluminum Design HM EVO 22-inch wheels, which are available in a glossy black paint.

As for performance enhancements, Hamann offers an upgrade for the 730d which increases output by 45-hp. Hamann also lowered the height on the 730d and the 740i by 40 millimeters.

Individualisation on the highest level
The HAMANN refining programme for the new BMW 7-series

Individualisation on the highest level - this is the motto under which HAMANN presents its refining programme for the new BMW 7-series of the model range F01 and F02. Already since 1986, the Laupheim-based company develops and produces products for the individualisation of BMW automobiles. Thereby, the HAMANN technicians profit from hundreds of successful motor sports participations. The competence which was gained there is the basis for the development of new HAMANN products and renders the highest level for product quality and processing. The result: stainless steel exhaust systems with a sporty and earthy sound, aerodynamics components reducing the lifting forces and striking light alloy rims from 19 to 22 inches. Interiors perfectly fitted with leather and combined with floor-mats in matching colours as well as non-slip aluminium pedals extend the accessory range.

Already when establishing the design, HAMANN perfectly adjusts the individual components of the aerodynamic pack. The result is an exciting styling with an optimised air flow across the car silhouette. LED daytime running lights which are integrated in the new front skirt, render a sporty-dynamic look and increase the passive safety. Simultaneously, in combination with the roof spoiler and the rear spoiler, the lifting forces are reduced and give the upper class limousine a new, attractive overall appearance. The visual connection between the front and rear part are the HAMANN side skirts which are available for the model series F01. The optionally available rear shield insert for the side skirt of the model 730d and 740i allows fitting the four-pipe sport end muffler. Four round stainless steel end pipes with a diameter of 90 millimetres perfectly enhance the rear part of the 7-series BMW and produce a powerful, earthy sound.

A performance enhancement for the Diesel engine with variable turbine geometrics is already under construction. By this first tuning stage the serial measure of the 730d (180 kW / 245 hp) increases by approximately 33 kW/45 hp.

A technical highlight of the offered tuning programme is the one-piece HAMANN-aluminium wheel called DESIGN HM EVO 22 inches. A hallmark of the modern styling is the glossy black paint with the diamond-grinded rim star and the discreet deep rim well. Five elongated and over-vaulted triple spokes document visual and technical finesse. Struts inside the spokes render additional stability. Modern production processes and the use of special aluminium alloys guarantee highest bearing loads at a low weight. Here, HAMANN recommends the dimensions 9.0Jx22 inches with 265/30ZR22 tyres at the front axle and 10.5Jx22 inches with 295/25ZR22 tyres at the rear axle.

The four progressively coiled chassis springs which lower the centre of gravity with the models 730d, 740i by 40 millimetres at the front- and rear axles, render a dynamic appearance. For the models 750i and 750Li, there is a lowering kit consisting of two chassis springs and an evening kit.

In addition to the existing, serial interior equipment, HAMANN accessories made first-class aluminium, pedals and foot-rests render motor sports air and perfectly match the embroidered HAMANN floor mat set. If desired, even a complete leather equipment can be produced with expert precision.

MWDesign tunes the BMW E92 M3 Coupe, calls it ‘Darth Maul’

MWDesign, a tuning firm based in Vancouver, Canada, has just unveiled their modification program for the BMW E92 M3 Coupe, codenamed “Darth Maul.” The Darth Maul sports a gorgeous Jerez Black exterior with a beautiful Fox Red interior trim.

Stage 1 of the MWDesign’s tuning program includes an Amuse Ericsson front bumper with custom orange highlights, Amuse Ericsson trunk, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, side vents, side mirrors and Modular M6 20-inch wheels, which are available with matte black centers and center caps. MWDesign also added H&R sports springs.

MWDesign says that there is a Stage 2 of the tuning program in the works. We’re guessing that will include power upgrades.

Edmunds says: “BMW 750i: It’s not all roses”

The fellows at Edmunds have spent some more time behind the wheel of the new BMW 7 Series and despite the overall positive review, found some issues that they believe shouldn’t be present in a $90,000 car. Recently, we managed to spent a bit of time behind the wheels of a 750Li, but unfortunately, we couldn’t reproduce these small issues. Sure, some might say we’re biased or “fanboys”, but I can assure you that’s not the case…..at least this time.

So what’s Edmunds complaining about?

P90045855

First, they believe there is a lot of wind noise coming from the driver’s window area, again, something we have either not paid attention to it since we were simply fascinated about the engine noise or our test car had better window sealing. Edmunds mentioned that they encountered the same issue in another 750. To give the 7 some credit, they do mention the almost non-existing road noise, something we were impressed by it as well.

Moving along, let’s see what other annoyance they discovered. Yes, the “Initial throttle tip-in is feeble”….well going out on a limb here, but I believe that’s been caused by the turbo engines, which despite having less lag than ever, there is still some left. Again, something we really didn’t feel it was a big deal since we knew that 1. the car is fairly large 2. it’s still a turbo.

Third item on the list: A/C being weak. Unfortunately for us, we’re in Chicago, so six months out of the year, we’re pretty much freezing, so I have to take a pass on this. They might be right, but I will check their statement soon, when summer hits Chicago.

And we’re finally at Edmunds’ item four on the annoyance list: Accessory drive noise. Well, we might agree just a little bit on this, it is true that from a start or at low speeds, there seem to be some noticeable sound pointing to a belt whinning noise. On the other hand, we’re pretty much sure that we’ve seen that on our 335i as well, so this really doesn’t bother us in the end. Driving BMWs for quite some time, we’re used to hearing more noise coming from the engine than many other cars out there.

Overall, we feel Edmunds’ pain and they have a point, but these issues seem to be easy correctable by the BMW engineers and we have no doubt that the second year of production will eliminate these quirks.

P.S. Still love the 7 and we will gladly trade our 335i for it. Any takers?

Hamann “pimps out” the BMW 7 Series even more

Hamann has just released new photos showing us their latest work performed on the new 2009 BMW 7 Series. Back in March, they released some teaser photos showing just some parts of the body kit with a promise that more will be revealed at a future date. The exterior has been obviously received the most upgrades, starting with a new front skirt and continued with a roof and rear spoiler. LED daytime running lights which are integrated in the new front skirt, render a sporty-dynamic look.

The dual twin pipes sticking out of the rear end and the wider side skirts enhance the overall aggressive look that Hamann gives to the new 7.  To fit the wider body, Hamann offers a quite large selection of wheels, from 19 inch all the way up to 22 inch, wheels that fit on 265/30ZR22 and 295/25ZR22 tires.

Engine tuning fans are not forgotten and Hamann managed to increase the stock 245 horsepower on the 730d to a whooping 290 horsepower, during Stage 1 only.

Inside, the Hamann 7 Series gets non-slip aluminium pedals and foot rests, as well as floor mats matching the interior colors.

If this is Stage 1 only, we cannot wonder what the next one will bring.
