BMW X1 Spy Photos Released by BMW

bmw_x1_official_spy_photos_2.jpg
BMW has released a few official photos of the upcoming X1 draped in camouflage.

According to TimesOnline there will be three engine choices in Europe: a 177hp diesel and 204hp diesel, and a gas powered 272bhp 3.0L V6. The US is likely to only receive the V6 when the X1 is released here.

We can expect to see the official production version of the X1 at the Frankfurt Motor Sow this September.

2009 Audi Q5 vs. 2009 BMW X3, 2010 M-B GLK350, 2010 Volvo XC60, 2010 Lexus RX350 - Comparison Test

When getting there is assumed and what counts is your arrival, you need a ride with Coach cachet, Ferragamo flair, Saks snobbery, Vuitton verve.

In the travertine halls of the Somerset Collection, a ritzy shopping enclave in the Detroit suburb of Troy, Michigan, our quintet of all-weather Arrival Vehicles—let’s call them AVs—basked in admiring glances. Burberry and Ralph Lauren behind showroom glass, Lexus and Mercedes out front, the coveting begins at 10 a.m.

Of course, an AV will get you to most any terrestrial destination; all-wheel drive, traction control, stability control, and onboard navigation see to that. But it’s the designer details and gilt-edge labels that mark an arrival.

2012 / 2013 BMW City / Project i - Car News

Having the right products in the right niches might be the key to sales success for automakers when the economy emerges from its stay in the ICU. BMW’s plan is to develop a super-efficient car family code-named “Project i.” The first car will be launched in 2012. It will be smaller and cost less than the next BMW 1-series or Mini Cooper, both of which will come to market in 2011.

BMW is no longer pursuing small-volume niche cars such as the near-six-figure SUV version of the 7-series, dubbed the X7; the SUV-like X4 coupe; the diminutive Z2 roadster; and the company’s Audi R8 competitor, the small mid-engine CS sports car.

2012 BMW 3-series Adds a Turbo Four, Hybrid, and Hatchback to the Range - Car News

BMW is planning to dramatically expand the number of offerings within its various model ranges, especially the strong-selling 3-series that is the backbone of the brand. All eyes are on the next 3, due for 2012.

Aside from the usual body styles—sedan, station wagon, coupe, and retractable-roof convertible—BMW will also build a five-door hatchback version featuring an aggressive design that will combine station-wagon practicality with coupelike style. In other words, the 3-series range will get its own version of the 5-series GT concept, BMW’s attempt to cross-pollinate an SUV and a station wagon. Like the 5-series GT, the 3-series GT will offer two adjustable seats with a center console in the rear and straddle the fine line between BMW SUV and BMW wagon in regard to overall height.

BMW E1 Concept - Car News

BMW was close to bringing electric cars to market once before. At the 1991 Frankfurt auto show, the E1 concept car was unveiled to showcase electric-vehicle technology—and its styling, powertrain, and packaging was controversial within and outside the company.

But the E1 turned out to be not much more than a styling and engineering exercise. BMW says it had been planning instead to bring a fully electric version of the 3-series to market. The most optimistic scenario: to build up capacity over 10 years, to 40,000 units annually. While the maximum power output of the E1 was not impressive, charging cycles—just a few hours—were short even by today’s standards, and the range was impressive at more than 150 miles.

BMW 7-series M Sport, xDrive, Hybrid, and Diesels Added for 2010 - Car News

We’ve thus far loved the slick new BMW 7-series, which is currently available in 750i and long-wheelbase 750Li forms, both powered by a 400-hp, twin-turbo V-8 that leaves little to be desired. Still, we welcome the news that BMW is spreading out 7-series goodness as if with a big, blue-and-white spatula, introducing several new model variants for the 2010 model year, most of which we will get here in the U.S.

First, the bad news: We will not be getting any 7-series with a six-cylinder gas or diesel motor, including the 300-hp twin-turbo 740i, the new 740d, which uses a 306-hp, 442-lb-ft twin-turbo-diesel inline-six, or the slightly less powerful 730d with its 245-hp turbo-diesel six.

The good news is that we get all the rest, starting with xDrive all-wheel-drive versions of the 750i and 750Li, about which we will have driving impressions very soon. Also coming for 2010 is the turbocharged 12-cylinder 760Li, into which BMW installs even more luxury accoutrements while positively dumping in the power, to the tune of 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. It will also mark the first application of BMW’s new eight-speed transmission, which will then be installed in the 5-series Gran Turismo. Expect the gearbox to spread across the entire BMW range after that, although the proliferation is likely to take years.

BMW introduces new pedal power machines

BMW Cruise Bike

Following on the heels of Mercedes-Benz launching an updated bicycle line, rival BMW has done the same thing. Bimmer's pedal power lineup isn't quite as extensive in terms of styles as the one from Stuttgart, with the new models consisting of a pair of adult-size cruising bikes targeted at day trippers, along with a little machine for youngsters.
The cruiser features a hydroformed aluminum frame. Hydroforming is a technique commonly used for shaping tubular structures like truck and car frames. A metal tube is placed inside a mold and then filled with pressurized oil until it conforms to the mold. The result is a strong, yet lightweight structure. The 27-speed Cruiser is designed for comfortable long distance riding and it starts at €849 ($1,200 USD).
BMW's so-called Kidsbike is designed to help tikes go from developing basic coordination on two wheels to full fledged riding. As shipped, the bike has no chain or pedals installed for the youngest kids. However, included in the box are a chain and pedal set that are easily installed for when the child is ready.

Rendered Speculation: M Concept evisions BMW's future R8 fighter

BMW M Design Concept

We never tire of seeing unobtanium rendered by talented Photoshop jocks, and the BMW M Concept is yet another example of an adept artist bringing his vision to the small screen.
Penned by Idries Noah, the M Concept was designed as BMW's answer to the R8, packing a 540 hp 5.0-liter V10 mounted amidships and drawing inspiration from the Ferrari Dino, 250GTO and, of course, BMW's own M1 Homage. According to Noah, many of the Concept's elements were pulled from nature, particularly the sides, "where the wave is hollow when it breaks." Rhetorical flourishes aside, we're partial to the rear and side views, while the front end is more than a bit overwrought for a modern Bimmer. Still, it's better than we could do and judging by some of the Homage's detractors, Noah might be more gifted than BMW's own design studio.

BMW wants 2018 Winter Olympic in Munich

Munich, Germany is working hard to attract the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, and native son BMW has signed up to help. The Munich automaker is providing financial aid and vehicles during the initial phase of the application for the city and bidding partners Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Berchtesgadener Land region.
It isn't BMW's first dabble in Olympics glory -- the roundel provided an electric BMW 1602 for the marathon and walking events when the summer Olympics visited Munich in 1972. If Munich wins the spot, it will be the first time the same city has hosted both the summer and winter Olympics. The winning city will be announced in 2011. For more on BMW's involvement,

BMW gives up on KERS for the remainder of the 2009 F1 season

After using its KERS hybrid system on and off through the first half of the 2009 Formula One season, the BMW-Sauber team has decided enough is enough. The team will shelve the system through the remainder of the year while it focuses on aerodynamic development. In spite of the utter lack of success using the kinetic energy recovery systems this year, team boss Mario Theissen said the development process has been useful for the company's production hybrids. Lessons learned in developing the electric hybrid system on the race cars has been transferred to engineers working on the upcoming 750h mild hybrid and X6 two-mode hybrid.
BMW isn't totally giving up on the system though, having voted to retain KERS for future seasons. Under the current rules, there are not enough performance benefits from KERS and Thiessen says that unless KERS is mandatory for all cars, it will likely be dropped by all teams.

BMW to introduce more powerful and efficient version of twin-turbo 3.0-liter diesel

BMW has just announced an upgraded version of its 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine. The new version retains the same displacement, yet output for the European spec version is increased from 286 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque to 306 hp and 442 lb-ft. At the same time, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are reduced by four percent compared to the previous version.
BMW has updated the fuel injection system to its latest generation common rail system. That means the injector pressure has been bumped from 1,600 BAR (23,000 psi) to 2,000 BAR (29,000 psi), allowing for even more precise metering of the fuel flow. The dual stage turbocharger system is now also more efficient. Since BMW only just introduced a version of the previous engine with U.S. legal after-treatment systems in late 2008, it seems unlikely that the U.S. will receive the upgrades in the near future.

BMW 7 Series M Sport images arrive on web

BMW 7 Series M Sport

We're not sure where they came from, but official-looking images of the upcoming BMW 7 Series M Sport just popped up on the interwebs today. The car you see here is identical to the one we saw in spy photos just a few weeks ago. Since the M6 will reportedly remain the brand's top dog in terms of big performance cars, the 7 Series M Sport will be to the standard 7 Series what all M Sport models are. That is, it gets more aggressive fascias front and rear, unique wheels, an M steering wheel, M shifter and M footrest. Rumor also has it that the 7 Series M Sport will be powered by the brand's newly updated 3.0-liter, twin-turbo diesel engine producing 306 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. No, it's still not an M7, but if you want a lightning quick 7 Series, you can go buy an Alpina B7 Biturbo for now.

2010 BMW 1 Series gets two new engines abroad, additional trim levels

The BMW 1-Series is a much bigger deal in Europe than it is here in the States. In the US, we can choose among the 128 and 135, and both options come standard with a six-cylinder engine. Overseas, you can pick up the 1 with two, three, four or five doors, and with a wide variety of four cylinder gasoline and diesel powertrains.
To keep the good times rolling, team Bimmer is again expanding the 1-Series lineup for 2010. Two new models, the Lifestyle and Sport models, will offer RWD performance in a three- or five-door package beginning this September. The Lifestyle model offers special edition Marrakesh Brown Metallic paint, unique brown body color interior components, chrome-tipped exhaust and 17-inch light aluminum rims. The Sport model includes the M Sports Package, with a sports tuned suspension, unique dual spoke aluminum rims, stainless steel pedals, and an M steering wheel and gearshift lever.
On the engine front, a pair of 2.0-liter engines find their way under the bonnet of a 1-Series. The petrol engine utilizes direct injection tech and packs 170 ponies to go along with 155 lb-ft. With the gas-powered 2.0-liter engine, the 1-Series can hit 60 in 7.8 seconds, and it carries a top speed of 149 mph.
The diesel variant packs 143 hp and 221 lb-ft, helping to propel the 118d to 60 in nine seconds. The story of merit is fuel economy and CO2 emissions, where where it achieves 4.5 liters/100 kilometers (about 52 mpg US) and a CO2 emission rating of 119 grams per kilometer

Life-size concrete replica of a BMW Z4 Coupe

BMW Z4 Concrete

At a BMW Art Car exhibition in Beijing, China, BMW is showing off a life-size replica of a Z4 Coupe made out of reinforced concrete.

The concrete Z4 Coupe comes with fully functional doors and glass windows. The inside is complete with a steering wheel, speedometer and a center console.

Finally, someone has created a BMW that will last forever.

What a BMW Audi R8 rival could look like

2009 BMW Concept Design

Many of us have grown very impatient waiting for BMW to come out with a competitor to the Audi R8. When BMW came out with the M1 Hommage Concept, it gave us hope that BMW was finally going to offer an R8 competitor; however, we have yet to hear anything official from BMW.

Automotive artist Idries Noah became just as impatient as us and decided to design his own version of BMW R8 rival.

“So elements like the trademark grille and hockey stick pillar remain. My inspiration for this design however came from nature. More specifically water and the way it flows and ripples. The side detailing was inspired by what’s called in surfing terms “a Barrel or Tube”. It’s where the wave is hollow when it breaks.”

Noah says that the car would be the same size as the R8 and would feature a 5.0L V10 found in the M5 and M6.

BMW is not working on a M7, spy shots show M Sport Package for 7-Series

Spy Shots: BMW M-Sport 7-Series

Earlier this month we saw a spy shot of what was said to be a 2010 BMW M7. Contrary to rumors and speculation, BMW’s M Division told CAR Magazine that it is not working on a M7 with a 547-hp twin-turbo V8. The spy shots you’re seeing are of a sportier 7-Series, otherwise known as the BMW M Sport 7-Series.

As with other M Sport packages, the BMW M Sport 7-Series will get a new front bumper, a slightly revised rear with relocated reflectors and a new set of wheels. BMW’s M Division will also add an upgraded suspension system. Inside, the M Spot 7-Series will feature a three-spoke M steering wheels, sport seats, aluminum trim and new kickplates.

Look out for the M Sport 7-Series at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor show in September. For those still wanting a hardcore 7-Series, check out the 507-hp 2009 BMW Alpina B7.

BMW City Project i car coming in 2012

BMW X6 ActiveHybrid

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything from BMW on their Project i program. According to CARandDRIVER, the first city-car, code-named “Project i,” will be launched in 2012. The car will be smaller and cheaper than the next BMW 1-Series and Mini Cooper that are due out in 2011.

BMW has put a halt on pursuing small-volume niche cars such as the much talked about X7, X4 or the mid-engined CS sports car. Instead, BMW will now focus all those resources on a three-door hatchback that the company internally refers to as the BMW “City.”

CEO Norbert Reithofer says that the City was specifically designed for the U.S. market to meet California’s Zero-Emission-Vehicle requirements. The four-seater City will be smaller than the Honda Fit and will be built in large-volumes by 2012.

Powered by an electric-motor that gets its juice from a an advanced water-cooler lithium-ion battery pack, the City is expected to provide a range of 100 miles. No decision has been made on whether the City will be badged as a BMW, Mini or a another brand altogether.

2010 BMW 7-Series gets 306-hp 740d diesel and M Sports Package

2010 BMW 7-Series - BMW 740d and M Sports Package

The current 2009 BMW 7-Series, known as the BMW F01, went into production in September 2008 so we don’t expect any changes coming to the model anytime soon. Nonetheless, there will be may additions and facelifts before BMW decided to completely redesign its flagship sedan. For the 2010 model year, the BMW 7-Series is getting a new diesel choice and an M Sports Package - a first for the 7-Series.

Later this autumn, the European market will get a BMW 740d featuring BMW’s new straight 6-cylinder diesel engine with TwinPower Turbo Technology that pumps out 306-hp and a peak torque of 422 lb-ft. 0 to 62 mph comes in just 6.3 seconds with a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph.

For the first time ever, the BMW 7-Series is getting its own M Sports Package that provides the 7-Series with an Aerodynamics Package, additional chrome trim on the front and rear aprons, illuminated M entry trim and BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow Line. Other features include exclusive Carbon Black Metallic paintwork, 19 to 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, electronically controlled BMW Dynamic Drive, an M leather steering wheel and much more.

The BMW M Sports Package is available for all models in the BMW 7 Series with both normal and extended wheelbase.

Next-generation BMW M5 to produce in the excess of 600-hp

2009 BMW M5

The current 2009 BMW M5 produces an outstanding 500-hp from its 5.0L V10 engine. However, Audi’s RS6 has now stepped up the game with a twin-turbo V10 that makes a neck-snapping 580-hp and Mercedes-Benz’s 2010 E63 AMG now pumps out 518-hp.

Well, BMW won’t take it anymore. Starting with the next-generation M5, BMW will use a new uprated version of the 555-hp 4.4L twin turbo found under the hood of the BMW X6 M and the BMW X5 M. Sources say that the M5 will pair the engine to an F1-style KERS system that will help produce in the excess of 600-hp.

The new M5 will also care a little about fuel-economy using a new system that shuts down cylinders when they are not needed.

We’ll get more information next year.

BMW 700 : 1960

bmw 700 ls luxus 1

To set off this dismal end of the motorcycle market, BMW built the prototype of a new small car in 1950, taking up the lines of the pre-war BMW 327 and the 600-cc fl at-twin engine so popular at the time. But the project was subsequently discarded for economic reasons.

How exciting can a BMW European Delivery pick-up really be?

And my answer is simple: VERY EXCITING. As someone who has twice picked-up my bimmers through the BMW European Delivery program, I can tell you that each time I had the time of my life and could have never imagined that buying a car can be so exciting.

After all, we’re all used to just go to a dealerships, scout the showroom area or the parking for that car that we want or like, then get into a painful negotiation game and hopefully driving off with the car you wanted. But the BMW European Delivery program really takes the shopping experience to another level. First of all, all the hassle and negotiation techniques are far limited, almost non-existent. Then, it’s the price which most of the time is around 10% lower than the regular sticker.

doc_2268_69_70_71_72-copy

We have talked about the BMW European Delivery program many times and we’ll leave it up to you to read more on it in our ED section or you can follow my last European trip here.

And to really prove our point of how exciting this program really is, the following video and photos will tell this story even better. The story starts with four friends going to Munich to pick up a gorgeous Montego Blue BMW 135i Coupe, then taking the car through Switzerland, Austria, Italy and France.

E46 BMW M3 CSL - A head turner

Last year, Andrew gave us an enthusiastic article on the E46 BMW M3 CSL, one of these M cars that many BMW fans are still hoping to see in the future.

The M3 CSL was a very low production, one-off model based on the E46 M3 and using its 333 horsepower engine as basis. The CSL stands for Coupe Sport Light and as the name suggests, it came with a lot of carbon fiber parts.

CSL came with a lighter carbon fiber roof and interior paneling, light seats and the buyers had the option to opt-out the radio and air conditioning unit. BMW built the car i only two colors: Silver Gray and Sapphire Black.

BMW M3 CSL photos

BMW made a limited run, less than 1,400 units of the M3 CSL (E46) vehicles between June and December 2003. Unfortunately for those of us in the U.S., due to the short production cycle and the complications and expense of clearing DOT and EPA standards for the North American market, BMW never brought the CSL to the United States.

To somehow satisfy the U.S. consumers’ needs to upgrade their M3, some parts from it were later made available on the regular M3 as part of an optional Competition Package.

In the UK, the BMW M3 CSL cost 20,000 British Pounds more than the regular M3 version, but it also came with a tuned up engine outputting 360 horsepower.

If we recall correctly, the CSL held for a while the BMW road car Nürburgring record of 7 minutes 50 seconds.

The question remains whether BMW will ever built another CSL version of the M3, but for now, these cars remain unique and quite valuable. As you can see in the photos below, there are plenty of reasons why they are so appreciated.

BMW introduces a New Voice Activation System

Starting in September 2009, BMW is presenting a truly innovative, cutting-edge technology for voice control in the automobile allowing even more reliable and convenient operation and control of navigation systems and infotainment functions.

Introducing this new system, BMW is raising the driver/vehicle dialogue to a new level of excellence. For the first time, one single voice command is sufficient to completely transmit the driver’s destination into the navigation system. The driver’s verbal statement specifying the place, street and number is processed immediately by the system, all data going directly into the navigation unit.
BMW New Voice Activation System

BMW is also the first European car maker to offer voice recognition serving not only to choose the appropriate audio source, but also to find individual music titles. The BMW system monitors and interprets the user’s voice commands regarding the type of music, the name of the artist, an album or an individual title, ensuring precise access to the audio program desired.

BMW’s voice control makes the operation and control of all of BMW’s latest navigation, communication and entertainment systems particularly reliable, safe, and convenient. User-friendly optimisation of the voice control function now enables the driver to use these extended options even more conveniently, without the slightest effort.

The new system comes in a wide range of languages and is available in Germany and Austria, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, and the USA.

Unique solution the world over straight from the factory: BMW cars “understand” complete addresses and music requests.
Introducing optimised voice control into the market in all current models as of September 2009 in combination with BMW’s optional navigation system Professional, BMW is once again setting standards in the simple and convenient control of navigation and entertainment systems fitted straight at the factory.

Following the full word destination entry introduced by BMW in 2006, the new system marks yet a further milestone in the rapid and precise selection of destinations. BMW is indeed the only car maker worldwide to offer a system able to “understand” a complete address entry. From now on the user no longer has to specify the place, street and number he is going to in individual steps, but is rather able to read out all this information in one, the entire message as a whole being covered and electronically processed by the system.

Should the driver, for example, read out the address “Berlin, Willy-Brandt-Strasse 1”, his BMW will take him straight to the Federal Chancellery in the capital of Germany.

This new system also facilitates the process of choosing your favourite music program while driving. To do so, the system supports the specific search for audio files, following various criteria according to the user’s choice. One option is to specify the type of music you desire, the artist, album or even the title of a specific song by voice control. The system then immediately presents the choice of audio files saved on the hard disc in a title list – and as of spring 2010, the system will even cover data files on a music player connected to the car.

Looking for the user’s favourite song, BMW’s voice control system also recognises several languages parallel to one another, finding, say, the English title of a song sung by a German artist without the slightest problem.

BMW voice control and BMW iDrive control: perfect combination of intuitive and safe function management.
Optimised voice control through BMW’s new system makes a significant contribution to enhanced comfort and safety in road traffic. Activation of frequently used functions by voice control ideally supplements BMW’s trendsetting iDrive control concept, offering the user the benefits of both systems all in one and ensuring largely intuitive operation of numerous vehicle and comfort functions, with the driver hardly having to take his eyes off the road. Hence, the driver is able to use the navigation and entertainment systems in his BMW quickly and efficiently, at the same time concentrating entirely on driving conditions and the traffic around him.

From the start the combination of BMW iDrive with voice control of a large number of commands ensures a supreme level of all-round efficiency. This efficiency has indeed been consistently optimised in the course of time, ranging from full-word entry in specifying destinations all the way to multi-modal control through voice control and the Controller in the latest generation of BMW iDrive. The driver is able to switch smoothly and without the slightest interruption from one entry mode to the other while performing the same process, with voice recognition remaining active for simultaneous use while making entries through the Controller.

This multi-mode operation may also be combined with new voice control functions enabling the driver to use his own particular style and mode of operation for functions he requires particularly often. To enter destinations into the navigation system quickly and in a routined manner, for example, the driver may first use voice control and then, through the Controller, call up specific information on sights and special stopovers along his route. He also has the option to pre-select the music program by voice control and then call up his favourite title at the touch of a button.

The system therefore adjusts in unique style to the user’s personal preferences, offering the safest and most comfortable mode of operation under all conditions and in every situation.

BMW plans assault on the premium entry-level segment with X and Y models

BMW's equivalent of Deep Throat has divulged a host of information on the marque's coming plans for its premium entry level range incorporating the 1-Series and Z2, and a new line of Y vehicles. According to the mole, Scott26, the 1 will break into three different levels: Traditional, Lifestyle, and Sporting. They will be underpinned by a modular platform that could be differentiated among models and also serve as the basis for the next MINI.
The Traditional line will include the 1-Series along with Active Hybrid and Sport Compact versions. Sporting will comprise the 1-Series and Z2 coupe and cabriolet, plus a Supersports version of the 1 and a 135i Lightweight Performance Concept. Lifestyle counts the 1-Series Gran Turismo, the X1, X2, and the Y1.
As Scott27 breaks it down, the full lineup will advance the capabilities of Efficient Dynamics, and a hybrid version of each car will be offered. As well, the cars will "resist the usual jump in weight by using lightweight materials and sophisticated bonding techniques." What would be weighty at that point is the number of BMW's offerings, with 12 cars alone mentioned here, not counting the hatch models.
And what is the Y1? Strictly a proposal at this point, the line would be for those who want more "identity and creativity" in their Sports Activity Vehicles. A "dynamic , lighter and more personal" SAV than the X6, the Y1 is laid out as a 2-door, 2-seat "hybrid of an X with the aura of a Z." Think of a de-Bangled X Coupe. Thanks for the tip, Andrew!

The Ultimate Flying Machine? BMW trims out business jet

BMW DesignworksUSA Falcon 7X business jet interior -

Thanks to its unique "ability to create designs consistent with individual brands, as exemplified by BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars," Dassault Aviation tasked BMW Group DesignworksUSA with the job of outfitting the interior of its new Falcon 7X business jet. The results were unveiled at the European business aviation community event in Geneva, and John Rosanvallon, President and CEO of Dassault Falcon, sounds pleased. "Thanks to DesignworksUSA's transportation design expertise and hard work, the new Falcon 7X interior cabin reflects our goal to define a new level of flying experience," he said of the effort.
Sounds like a winner to us. According to Verena Kloos, BMW Group DesignworksUSA President, "DesignworksUSA created the theme of "Elegance and Style fused with Function." Our concept focuses on the sensory elements of the flying experience emphasizing form follows feeling."
We're not quite sure what that means exactly, but one of the more interesting design elements has to be the lighting solution, which creates the effect of a starry night sky through the use of what appears to be little LEDs embedded in the ceiling and larger glowing orbs in the valence panels. Looks like a pretty nice place to spend some time while jet-setting between destinations. Check out the full press release after the break for more.

Camouflaged BMW X1 in Action

Seems like BMW is still waiting on releasing official images and videos of the full production X1. Nonetheless, the German automaker keeps us entertained with the release of official spy shots, teasers and now, this video of a camouflaged BMW X1 in action.

BMW 7-Series M-Sport Package spotted uncovered

With these latest spy photos, we hope that auto media all over the web will stop with the BMW M7 predictions. We were the first one to say it and shutter everyone’s dreams: the 7 Series spotted, it’s simply a model featuring the upcoming M Sport Package, an aero kit that will give the 7 Series a sportier and more aggressive look.

While the new 7 Series was accepted fairly well by the media and consumers, there were still some voices expressing their concern that the 7er is not as aggressive as one would want. So nearly, so less than a year after the official launch, BMW will give everyone what they craved for: an M Sport Package.

So what’s the M Pack bringing new to the table? Obviously a  more aggressive front fascia with larger air intakes into the redesigned front bumper, some chrome parts still hiding underneath black tape and a what it seems to be a new set of wheels.

1771685

The changes might not be very overwhelming, but these new small additions are what turns the 7 Series into an even better looking car. We’re unclear if there will be any engine tuning done as part of the M Pack, but if that will happen, the new M Sport Package will be a even more successful addition to an already elegant and sporty high-end luxury sedan.

And as we always mention, we totally dig the dark colors on the 7 Series models…

X, Y, Z Series: So, what’s Y Series and where could it fit?

What started last week as a simple rumor, it turned out today to be more than just that. According to sources close to BMW, the company is indeed exploring this idea and looking to vizualize where such model will fit in. The Y models could become a hybrid of two other popular series: the sports activity X vehicles and the sporty, dynamic Z roadsters.

Since many of you left comments yesterday inquiring more about this rumored Y1 model, we had to do some digging and once again, Scott from GCZ, comes to shed some light.  After reading his short description of “what, where and why”, the Y Series sounds pretty damn good to us. Sure, it’s still a long shot and the project might get squashed as many other before, but hey…allow us to be excited for a moment. And that excitement also comes from the fact that the auto industry is changing, evolving and innovating.

We know that changes are tough, harsh on people and most of the time rejected, but we have to look forward to the future and the way we look at cars, or even how we use them.

BMW X-coupe

BMW X Coupe Concept featured here

The X series identifies the range of Sport Activity Vehicles , such as X5 , X3 , X6 and very soon the X1.
The Z series identifies the range of Sporting Roadsters namely the Z4 but in the future the Z2.
Where does Y come into play.

It has been identified that certain customers were looking for something more sporting with their SAV’s, Which although the liked the X5 there was something missing in regards to how the X5 was anonymous in concept along with the X5’s competitors. One shape for each marque which brought the question for the purpose of the X6 The Worlds first Sport Activity Coupe.

Even after the introduction of the BMW X6 some customers have been identified who might want a bit more identity and creativity with a Sport Activity Coupe. Something with two doors rather than three an interesting new concept of Sport Activity Coupe which would be dynamic , lighter and more personal as a smaller Sport Activity Coupe.

Identified as a Concept and a creative idea. The Y series aims to be the hybrid of an X with the aura of a Z model. By being based within the the 1er portfolio BMW can be very cost efficient with an entirely new concept of car . First proposals showcase a small sedan like coupe shape with a raised driving position but not to much ground clearence. The Glasshouse is very shallow with a glass solar roof that will in theory retract down to the rear windshield offering a wide open Targa style roof.
Solar technology will be introduced on the next generation 1er as an Efficient Dynamics feature.

When it was shown , many recoiled in horror but in truth the DNA of the BMW Xcoupe Concept can be found in not only both incarnations of the Z4 Roadster but also the BMW X6. The idea of a combination of an X vehicle with the looks of a small coupe or roadster has been very much on the agenda since the Xcoupe was unveiled. Strictly billed as a niche model , not a volume model would help the Y create a key market as a unique unconventional choice as seen with the X6.

Although strictly as a two seater , the interior will be very sport orientated and feature such materials such as neoprene and synthetic shark skin type stretched materials like a zepplin shell over an all aluminum dashboard and the structure of the two seats..

In the future BMW will set out to gain focus on such a idea with a design concept in the near future, Ii the idea is well received then expect to see the Y on the roads in a few years time. For now it is a proposal of creativity.

And more thoughts on this:

We have identified customers who are interested in the Sports Activity Coupe Concept with more attention to compact and sportyness rather than a large coupe. It is here the Y1 will succeed because of it’s intentions it’s a hybrid of the X and Z series it wont be as raised as a conventional BMW SAV but it will have the looks of a Z series meaning strictly for two but with a very dynamic looking appearence.

Many have always liked the idea of a Xcoupe , but marketing were pushing for a larger premium models. The Y will strictly become a member of the 1er family .
BMW have now seen the need for expansion in your smaller , compact segment , because we are at the stage certainly in the current economic climate where downsizing is frequent and after the economic climate passes customers both old and new will be look for exciting more compact cars.
We have to think about the future and what will happen to the SAV? Y1 is an interpretaion of how we can think along those lines , new customers will evolve and want more versatility in their cars , these are future customers that today are being instructed on the environmental effect in regards to hybrids and electric powered automobiles.

Y1 will be a very dynamic car to drive and is purely aimed at young customers. As part of the next phase of Efficient Dynamics - Solar roofs will be featured to enable areas of the car to be regenerated. The Y1 will get a unique sliding Targa roof that will provide maximum exposure for the passenger compartment .

There are customers for every type of vehicle BMW offers . Even though the media claimed the X6 was a step too far we have proven them wrong and have outfooted our competitors but we know that in Design studios at Audi , Porsche and Mercedes-Benz they have there own interpretations of a Sport Activity Coupe ready to go and when things get clearer economically they will come to light.
There are customers for the 5er GT as there will be a customer base for the X1 plus there will still be customers for core models such as the 3er , 5er and so on.

Xcoupe always had a future but at BMW we like things to progress slowly we like to understand and we like to showcase creativity for the customer.
Everything begins with a clean sheet of paper but are never rushed , ideas that mature longer . We did say in 2001 that you will see this car on the road sometime in the future. Now almost a decade later that future is almost here.

BMW working on system that stops vehicles during a medical emergency

Senior citizens who are at heightened risk for heart attack and strokes or those with diabetes often stop driving to keep both themselves and other motorists safe in the event that they have a medical issue while behind the wheel. Others ignore the risk factors and continue to drive until something happens to themselves or others, while still others often suffer completely unforeseen medical events. Regardless of whether you are young or old, sick or healthy, BMW is working on a new safety system called Emergency Stop Assistant which will safely bring one's vehicle to a stop during a medical calamity.
According to BMW, its new experimental system will sense medical dangers for the driver. When a serious medical issue is detected, the system will switch over to an autonomous driving mode to safely stop the vehicle out of harm's way. The system is currently in development, and it promises to turn on the hazard lights, utilize radar tech to navigate the Bimmer through traffic, then slow the vehicle to a stop once it finds the shoulder. BMW's existing Extended Emergency Call system would then call emergency services and provide the location of the vehicle. The system, if brought to production, could save lives while also giving those with medical issues peace of mind.
BMW is testing its Emergency Stop Assistant system as part of Smart Senior, a project launched by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany. Official press release after the jump.

BMW X1 teasers released on its Facebook fan page

It seems like automakers are getting the hang of using social media to spread the word about their products. As such, the BMW X1 Facebook page has 926 fans, which is why BMW decided to release teaser shots of the upcoming compact SUV on the people-connecting website to keep fans excited.

When you think of BMW X1, think of Volkswagen’s Tiguan in terms of size. It’s slightly smaller than the X3 and will seat 4 individuals comfortably (although a 5th can be cramped in somewhere in the middle).

While we’re not sure which model year designation the X1 will carry when it hits markets early next year (most likely 2010), we do know that it will be offered in three different variants.

Kicking of the lineup is the xDrive20d, which is powered by a 177-hp diesel engine. Second is the xDrive23d, which is powered boy 204-hp turbodiesel. The xDrive28i gasoline model is powered by a 3.0 6-cylinder making 231-hp and a 199 lb-ft of torque. It will be the only model offered in North America.

We’re expecting BMW to drop all the high-res shots and details very soon.

Next generation BMW 1 Series: “Tradition, Sporting for every Lifestyle”

Scott27 from GCZ, a BMW marketing representative released some new info on the next generation 2012 BMW 1 Series. We decided to post it in exactly the same format he did, without any further additions.

But we would like to tell you that we can’t really confirm all the information posted in there, other than a few future 1 Series models we have heard about from other sources as well. Historically, he has been releasing useful information, rather than diversions…..

So, let’s see what BMW has in the pipe for us and pay attention to this exciting part at the end:

2012-1-series-bmw

“The BMW 1er -BMW performance Concept is something similar to the BMW M3 CSL - more advantage of lightweight materials and specific options aimed at the enthusiast.
Although there will be a similar option for the M3 Coupe including Matt finishes as Glacier Silver , Matt Black and Clay White.”

And the possible new model we talked about yesterday: BMW Y1.

Definitive. Tradition , Sporting and for every Lifestyle.
The BMW 1er.

I am giving you a preview of the finshed article regarding the next generation 1er model , which will go into detail over the new Cost efficient modular platform that will be found under each variant.
I would like to stress this is not the old VW way where very car just shared the same platform without anything to differentate the actual car.
Why BMW will continue to lead the direction of premium small cars.
How the 1er will grow without compromise to weight , efficiency or handling? How a range of engines will continue to offer the best efficiency , performance in the compact class.
And why BMW are wanting to experiment in the segment that will grow larger with new exciting concepts for every level of driver.
And when the curtain goes down , the audience erupts for an encore.

The Backbone : The new modular Chassis.

Efficient Dynamics : Why the BMW 1er will spearhead the first premium line up in the compact segment to offer a hybrid drivetrain for each variant.

Efficient Dynamics Prt 2 : Pioneer to Leader - The first generation of 1er brought many efficient technologies to the compact segment .
The second generation will also bring new options and technology that will be seen across the whole BMW portfolio.

Putting it altogether : How the new 1er will resist the usual jump in weight by using lightweight materials and sophisticated bonding techniques.

Efficiency to Performance : Excitement for enthusiasts at every level.

The Traditional Portfolio .

BMW 1er

BMW 1er Active Hybrid .

BMW 1er Sporthatch.

The Sporting Portfolio.

BMW 1er Coupe

BMW 1er Cabrio.

BMW 1er SuperSports.

BMW Z2.

BMW Z2 Coupe.

The Lifestyle Portfolio.

BMW X1.

BMW X2.

BMW 1er Gran Turismo.

BMW Y1.

The Final Curtain : BMW 135i (E82) Lightweight BMW Performance Concept ., (Lightweight materials , 2 matt paint options)

What the current climate has taught us is that many customers are looking to downsize and we have seen in this time 5er customers becoming 3er customers and 3er customers becoming 1er customers.

Since the introduction of the 1er and the two year cool off stage to see if it binds success before expanding the range. We have learned especially now that people will pay for premium small cars a lesson we learned with MINI and now something we are learning with the BMW 1er.

The 1er was a very different direction for BMW had the Rover experiment succeeded we would never of had the 1er. Now with expansion the Coupe , Sporthatch and Cabrio have expanded BMW sales in many markets.

With the next generation which begins with the BMW X1 we are looking at expanding the range of 1er models as many customers who will return to BMW might take advantage of something smaller , more efficient but with the same level of luxury.

The list regards some concepts that are undertaken as competition exercises that have made it to the final stage , Although some ideas might not happen , it shows the commitment BMW have to making the 1er one of the key profit making models for the BMW Group.

The BMW 1er -BMW performance Concept is something similar to the BMW M3 CSL - more advantage of lightweight materials and specific options aimed at the enthusiast.
Although there will be a similar option for the M3 Coupe including Matt finishes as Glacier Silver , Matt Black and Clay White. But do not think of them as CSL’s.

Some official BMW X1 photos were released today

We’re probably just hours away from the full set of the official BMW X1 photos hitting the web, but in the mean time, the BMW marketing machine released some “teaser” photos of the X1 on their Facebook page.

As a refresher, with the X1, BMW offers a new perspective as a compact premium Sport Activity Vehicle. It will be oriented towards younger BMW fans and most important, as an urban vehicle. Even though initially there were no plans to release the car in the U.S., sources close to  BMW speak of the possibility of seeing this car sometimes next year.

4431_86754413639_68534853639_1855913_6358357_n

BMW is going for a broad reach with the X1, which will come with the option of three petrol and three diesel engines from the outset. The petrols include two 2.0-liter models with 141 horsepower and 168 horsepower, and a 254 horsepower 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit. On the diesel side there will be three of 2.0-liter common rail fours producing 141 horsepwer, 175 horsepower and 201 horsepower.

The first models will feature the BMW xDrive system, but in the future, a rear-wheel drive option will be offered as well.

Stay tuned for more photos and information!

BMW X5 M: Real life photos

2009 BMW X5 - Review

BMW’s X5 was one of the first to prove that a truck could dance through the twisties and reward an enthusiastic driver. It was a practical, four-season people mover that drove like a proper Bimmer. Granted, that first-generation “Sports Activity Vehicle,” which debuted in 1999, also was a bit firm in the suspenders and lacked the cavernous cargo area of more traditional SUVs. And so the second-generation X5 attempts to address those ills with a more compliant, yet still taut suspension and nearly eight inches of added length to accommodate an optional third row of seats. While the addition of the X5 xDrive35d and its 265-hp, 3.0-liter turbo-diesel is the primary change for 2009—stay tuned for more on that model—we decided to take another look at the top-level xDrive48i outfitted with BMW’s 350-hp, 4.8-liter V-8.

Performance is Relative, Even for a BMW

The last V-8 X5 we evaluated was similar to this particular example, albeit slightly less expensive due to the lack of the $3700 Sport package found on our tester. While this model rolled on 19-inch all-season rubber versus the 20-inch summer-tire option, the addition of BMW’s Electronic Damping Control suspension and sport seats/steering wheel made tossing around the 5200-lb behemoth rather pleasant. The feel from the helm is reminiscent of that in our long-term X6 xDrive50i, yet the absence of the X6’s torque-vectoring rear axle and twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8—both of which we expect to migrate to the X5 relatively soon—make the seven-seater a mite less playful, and slower.

2009 BMW Z4 sDrive35i Full Test and Video

Shortly after the initial BMW Z4 review, Edmunds.com released their more detailed test drive of the new Z4 sDrive35i. As always, they offer lots of information and an objective analysis.

We won’t spoil the conclusion, but at the same time, we haven’t really seen any negative reviews of the Z4 yet, so you can draw the conclusion yourself.

What Works:
Stout 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine; refined ride and handling; cockpit space and layout; gracefully executed retractable hardtop; revamped iDrive.

edmunds-bmw-z4-review

What Needs Work:
Flatulent engine note; long, heavy clutch throw; price is getting up there.
There’s this guy at work (let’s call him Dan) who never warmed up to BMW’s Z3 and Z4 roadsters. Something about them simply didn’t ring true.
Bottom Line:
The BMW Z4 has finally crystallized into a truly desirable roadster by fully departing from its über-Miata roots.

2011 BMW 5 Series Wagon - We like it!

Courtesy of James from Germancarzone, we have a new rendering of the upcoming 2011 BMW 5 Series Wagon.Developed under the F11 internal codename, the new 5er Wagon will be launched in the first half of 2010, with the official unveiling taking place at the Geneva Motor Show.

After seeing the latest and more revealing spy photos, we started to love even more the new design lines. In our opinion, James pretty much nailed the overall design lines and dimensions and we have many reasons to believe that the final version will not look far from this rendering.

The new F11 5 Series Wagon has a longer wheelbase and a wider track than the current generation 5er, offering more interior room and also cargo space. Many people were concerned about the new Wagon conflicting with the recently released BMW 5 Series GT, but BMW clearly explained that the two cars will have a different customer base.

5-ertouringcopy-2

Even though some people expected to see a large CS Concept influence in the design, that will not be the case. Some CS design cues will be seen at the front-end, but mostly related to the headlights design. As you can see in this rendering and the spy photos, the rear-end sports a more “coupeish” like roof.

Overall, a great rendering and if the actual 5er Wagon will turn out to be anything like this, we will be very happy.

Next 2012 BMW 1 Series five-door hatchback

Last week, the first spy photos of the next generation BMW 1 Series popped up on almost all the car websites out there. As usual, we reported on it and gave you more details on what to expect from the new 1 Series line-up.

While the initial photos showed what we believe is the shooting brake variant of the 1er, these new shots are giving us the overall shape of the new five-door hatchback, a model not yet available in the U.S.

As seen across the BMW future line-up, the 2012 BMW 1 Series will have a slightly longer wheelbase and wider track than the current model. Some auto publications speculate that this will allow BMW to introduce it in the U.S. market as well, but take it with a grain of salt, in our opinion, it is still too early to commit to such plans.

2012 BMW 1 Series hatchback photos

Future BMW 1 Series variants also include a Coupe and Convertible model, 3-door hatchback, shooting brake variant and also, the highly-wanted/expected BMW 135i Supersports car, an “M-like” vehicle without the M badge and still developed by the Motorsport division.

Due to the new 1 Series platform which can be extended and used across several bodystyles, BMW is looking into more 1er variants, 3-door touring, 3 and 5-door GT and even a 3-door Sports Activity Coupe. Those models are still in the research phase, so no decision has been made.

2012 BMW 1 Series hatchback photos 001

What we did hear recently are the talks around a new BMW series, codename Y, which apparently it will use the same 1 Series platform. No other details at this time, but you’ll be the first to know once we hear more.

As far as the engine line-up in the upcoming 1 Series, a large range of powerplants will be offered, from turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, to new 3 cylinder powerplants and hybrids.

BMW Tops Lexus for Third Month

For the third month in a row, BMW has outsold Lexus taking the top seller position of luxury vehicles in the United States. Despite the 28% drop from a year earlier, BMW has sold a total of 18,383 vehicles, in contrast with Lexus who reported 16,922 vehicles sold, almost 36% lower sales compared to last year.

The total vehicles sold by in the U.S. this year is 76,819, over 3,000 more cars than Lexus has sold so far. The achievement is even more impress since Lexus has been a leader of the luxury vehicles market for the past nine years. Back in 2000, Lexus took away the first position from the Mercedes-Benz.

Looking at the classic competitors, we see that Mercedes-Benz had a 31% percent decline in sales for the month of May, with a total of 15,134 vehicles sold last month. Overall Daimler’s sales were down 33%, still short of BMW Group’s 28%. (MINI brand included).

aa_bmw_m3_vs_lexus_is-f_header_01

Audi, considered by many the most important BMW competitor, achieved an 8.8% share of U.S. imported luxury vehicle sales in May. Audi sold 7,503 units in May overall.

And Acura was down also, a significant dropped compared to last year, 36% down and 9,469 vehicles sold. Infiniti did just a bit worse, 38% drop or 6,496 cars sold.

Overall, another bad month for most of the automakers, with very few showing signs of revival.

2008 BMW 123d - Short Take Road Test

We imagine rampant chest thumping at BMW’s U.S. headquarters as its product planners finalized the scheme to sell the obscenely torquey 335d here. But BMW sells many powerful four-cylinder diesels in Europe. Wouldn’t the larger fuel-economy payoff of a smaller engine, and its lower price, be worth a sacrifice in the performance of the 3-series diesel?

Our friends at Robert Bosch Corporation loaned us a 123d, which houses the most powerful of BMW’s diesel fours. Surpassing the 100-hp-per-liter benchmark—virtually unheard of in the diesel world—this sequentially turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 201 horsepower. Just as shocking is its 295 pound-feet of torque, equaling that of the M3’s V-8.

2011 / 2012 BMW 1-series - Spied

To us, the BMW 1-series remains fresh. First launched in the States for the 2008 model year in coupe and convertible body styles, its BMW 2002–inspired styling hasn’t yet had time to grow stale. In Europe, on the other hand, the 1-series was launched way back in 2004 as a controversially styled hatchback, which is getting a bit dated. (The coupe and droptop were added to the Euro lineup later.)

BMW plans to start production of the second-generation 1-series hatchback in the second quarter of 2011. Our spy pictures reveal that the basic shape will remain unchanged. The 1-series hatch will keep its large front with the big nostrils, its sculpted flanks, and the practical, upright liftgate.

The front overhang will grow to accommodate pedestrian protection rules, a move that doesn't hurt the car's proportions, and the sagging, cow-belly line on the side will be corrected, as it has been on the latest Z4. New headlights and taillights with modern LED elements will help to assure that the redesign doesn't go unnoticed.

BMW overtakes Lexus as best-selling luxury brand in 2009

BMW, the makers of the ‘Ultimate Driving Machines,’ has over taken Toyota’s Lexus brand to become the best-selling luxury marquee in the U.S. so far this year. According to Autodata Corp., Lexus has held the title since 2000, but sales are now down 37.2 percent.

BMW, which hasn’t held the No.1 title in the U.S. since 1997, also beat German rival Mercedes-Benz. While BMW sales are also down 30.5 percent, it sold more units than Lexus coming in with a total of 76,819 through the month of May. Lexus sold 73,186.

Nonetheless, luxury automakers still have many months to go before the year is over. Lexus has just rolled out its new 2010 RX 350 SUV and is also looking to introduce its first dedicated hybrid model, the HS 250h, by the end of the summer.

Oh, and Volkswagen-owned Bentley and Daimler’s Maybach - your uber-luxury brands - are down 60 percent so far this year. Maybach sold only three vehicles in May.

BMW Z4 The Old And New

Even though the new BMW Z4 has been widely accepted and embraced by the BMW crowd, the older model E85 still remains in everyone’s hearts. The last Z4 Roadster built in the U.S. rolled off the production line back in August 2008 and new Z4 production moved over to Europe, more specifically at the Regensburg plant in Austria.

There were a little more than 9,300 Z4s built last year at Spartanburg and over the seven years production, but the Z4 lines will be replaced by the new X3, due to launch in 2010. The older and fist BMW Z4 was a drastically more modern car than the Z3 it replaced, with an increased overall size and more mature design.

And while we initially believed that the first generation Z4 will look really outdated when placed side-by-side with the new E89 Z4, we were wrong this time. Looking at the photos below, we can still see a fresh, modern design on the “old” Z4 and in our opinion, still very appealing.

674647_8m2zsq

Now don’t get us wrong, the 2009 BMW Z4 is a beauty and the new roadster has impressed us from the first moment we laid eyes on it at the Detroit Auto Show. The E89 roadster has brought one of the best interior designs to date in a BMW and at the same time, a highly-acclaimed new design lines, the work of team formed only of females.

And the same as with the Z3 and the first Z4, the 2009 Roadster has grown in size and matured even more, putting its competitors on the spot and claiming the crown in the roadster segment. So, let’s enjoy the photos below, the great work of 2002ti, member of garaget.org.

G-Power BMW M3 Tornado gets 500-hp

G-Power has given the world some outstanding modified BMW vehicles including the M6 Hurricane, X5 Tycoon, M5 Hurricane and G4 EVO III Z4. Now, G-Power has set its sights on the new BMW M3 and has introduced, what they call, the G-Power M3 Tornado.

G-Power used a soft charging with just 0.3 bar boost, which increases output of the M3 to 500-hp with a maximum torque of 354 lb-ft. The boost of extra power comes from a G-Power supercharger system, the T1-518 ASA centrifugal supercharger. That very supercharger is also used by Alpina on the B5S, B6S and the B7.

All that extra power allows the M3 Tornado to go from 0 to 124 mph in 13.5 seconds and lets you keep going above 200 mph.

Press Release:

Supercharger system provides the BMW M3 with 500 hp and a top speed of more than 320 km/h

For the current BMW M3, G-POWER offers an exquisite supercharger system that sets new standards in regards of design, quality and performance. Using gentle soft charging with just 0,3 bar (relative) boost, the output of the V8 engine is pushed from 420 hp to 500 hp and the torque increases from 400 Nm up to 480 Nm.

After 9 months of intensive development, starting with the CAD design, followed by prototyping and completed with test drives and hot climate tests in the United Arab Emirates, the result is awesome.

500 hp and 480 Nm of torque, achieved through gentle soft charging with just 0,3 bar (relative) boost, let the BMW M3 appear completely changed. Already from 3.000 rpm on the supercharged G-POWER M3 TORNADO pulls like the standard BMW M3 revving twice as much, but than the G-POWER M3 TORNADO really starts to flex its muscles: from 5.000 rpm on until redline the G-POWER M3 TORNADO provides constantly about 20 % more torque than the factory car, this provides an acceleration that feels like being dragged by a bungee cord.

This output explosion is based on the heart of the G-POWER supercharger system, the all new T1-518 ASA centrifugal supercharger. By the way the ASA superchargers are being used in the ALPINA models B5S, B6S and B7 as well, just like the ALPINA B6 GT3 race car, in witch the chargers could state there impressive quality and reliability during 3.500 km in the “Green Hell” of the Nürburgring at the 24th hour race on may 23rd and 24th!

The exclusive use of components meeting OEM standards is one of the basic elements of the G-POWER philosophy and one of the secrets for the extraordinary quality, reliability and performance of the G-POWER products.

For its mission in the G-POWER M3 TORNADO the ASA T1-518 has been literally been tailor-made, to provide the giant need for fresh air of the up to 8.300 rpm revving 4.0 litre V8 engine. But the ASA supercharger, flanged to the engine using a CNC-milled high-strength mount, is not the only high-tech component of the G-POWER M3 supercharger system. The engineers did not spare any cost or efforts during the development of this supercharger system. Amongst others they even did a sophisticated, computer aided simulation which analyses the conditions of the air-ducting engine parts. The defined goal of this extensive research is to improve the efficiency of the G-POWER supercharger system to the best possible performance. And the result proofs us right. The G-POWER supercharger system is capable of reducing the specific fuel consumption of the engine. This shows that we do not only care about performance but are concerned of the sensitive use of restricted resources like fuel, as well.

A further key figure, next to the supercharger, in the G-POWER supercharger system is the complete aluminium cast, large volume air box, including 8 lightweight integral resonance induction pipes, that is responsible for the perfect throttle response and optimal torque curve. The G-POWER M3 supercharger system is completed by the large air-to-air intercooler that is located in the vehicles front, which cools the boost temperature down to an output optimal level under all circumstances.

Of course the performance figures benefit from this huge output improvement. The figure from stand still to 200 km/h improves from 15,8 seconds (stock, 6-speed manual) to 13,5 seconds (SKI).

On demand we can enable an unlimited top speed according to the capacity of the tyres. In combination with the 20 inch G-POWER SILVERSTONE DIAMOND wheels and the MICHELIN Pilot Sport tyres in the dimension 255/30 ZR 20 and 295/25 ZR 20, a top speed of more than 320 km/h can be achieved. Especially designed for the BMW models, the G-POWER SILVERSTONE Alloy Wheel forms a contrast to the great mass of other aftermarket wheels, due to the successful combination of double spokes and the “concave design” typical of G-POWER. The G-POWER “diamond cut” provides for the fascinating dynamic appearance of the G-POWER SILVESTONE rim, in contrast to the silver-graphite coated rim body and the bolt applications of stainless steel. An additional feature of the G-POWER SILVERSTONE rim is its weight-optimised design that allows a low rim weight with the same stability, compared to other standard wheels. A perceptibly improved impression of convenience and a considerably increased agility accompany the minimisation of the unsprung mass: advantages of the G-POWER SILVERSTONE rim, which you can factually experience above all in connection with low-profile tyres. Further improvement of the road handling is realized through the continuously height-adjustable G-POWER coil-over suspension G3M-RS with nine selectable settings each for bound and rebound.

Next to the output and the suspension of the BMW M3, G-POWER has taken care of the sound, as well. The G-POWER 4-trim sport rear muffler with its 4 x 83 mm tailpipes gives the BMW V8 a deep, throaty sound that turns heads but is at now time annoying. The G-POWER M3 rear muffler is available made from stainless steel or completely out of Titanium which is 14,5 kg lighter than the factory part.

The interior is upgraded by G-POWER with precious carbon panels, a speedometer with G-POWER logo scaled to 360 km/h, a sporty aluminium pedal set and on demand a tailor-made leather interior. The exclusivity of each G-POWER M3 TORNAD is documented with a special badge in the interior and on the supercharger system that features the G-POWER serial number.

NO, this is not the BMW M7, it’s a 7 Series with the M-Sport Package

We don’t usually get frustrated with BMW related news and we enjoy reading them from different sources as well, but when the same topic comes up twice in a week, we feel that we have to step in and clarify them.

Last week, some photos of the supposed BMW M7 made their way onto the web and everyone jumped to report that we are looking at the first Motorsport model based on the 7 Series. We obviously didn’t fall for it, for several reason and we immediately reported that we are looking at a 7 Series model featuring the M Sport Package which will be released later this year.

You might wonder what these reasons were, well, no worries, we’ll explain them to you right now.

First, there was never a solid report, rumor, that BMW is indeed actively looking at an M7 model. If they were, trust us, we would have heard about it.

Second, the photos posted today and last week, clearly show a prototype with very little to none camouflage. Knowing BMW and the way the protect their designs from spy photographers, they would have never released the M7 out in the open like that. The M7 would have been a “hot car” and it would have probably worn like 10 sheets of fake plastic on top of it.

Third, let’s examine the car closer. All we can see right now pointing to an M7 would be the front-bumper, BUT THAT”S ABOUT IT, and even the more aggressive bumper doesn’t fit the profile of an M car. There are no other M design elements on this car, not the famous M gills or the “fearful” hood.

Now, in our opinion, judging from the covered bulge on the hood, we believe we are looking at the 7 Series Hybrid which will be released later this year. That bulge has been a trademark on most of the hybrid spy photos we have seen so far, from the X5 Hybrid to the upcoming X6 ActiveHybrid.

So, can we please move on now? When there will be talks of an M7, we promise you that will be one of the first publications to report them.

P.S. Forgot to mention this: that front bumper looks amazing and it really turns the 7 Series into a stunning car.

Alpina B3 BiTurbo

The Alpina B3 BiTurbo, the “hotter 335i Coupe” as many people named it, it’s one of those cars that you just fall in love from the moment you see it.

Now, we all know that the E92 Coupe is a an extremely good looking car and the biggest seller in the 3 Series line-up, but the Alpina B3 BiTurbo just takes it to another level.

B3 BiTurbo uses the same 3.0 liter six-cylinder twin-turbo engine as the 335i, but as expected, it receives an upgrade: the boost pressure for the sequential twin turbos has been dialled up to 1.1 bar, with toughened Mahle pistons bolted inside to cope with the extra strain.

The result, peak specific values of 121 hp per liter.

The result: 355 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Plenty for everyone, if you ask us. The B3 runs from 0-62 mph in only 4.8 seconds, keeping with the more powerful BMW M3. The B3 features steering wheel mounted buttons shifts -SWITCH-TRONIC- reprogrammed to respond even faster than the auto-transmission in the regular 335i.

Alpina B3 BiTurbo features optimised front and rear aerodynamics, along with a set of gorgeous wheels.

Since the point of this article was mostly to share with you these stunning photos, we’ll write less and let the photos do the “talk”.
