This is probably a question that many of you have asked before and one that we tried to answer when we had the opportunity or the knowledge. With just four days before the official press release, we came across some new information.
As many of you might remember, the BMW X1 will be offered both as an all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel drive vehicle. Of course, both diesel and gasoline engines are part of the X1 family, but with more focus on the more efficient diesel powerplants.
The petrol entry level model is the BMW X1 xDrive28i which outputs 258 horsepower and 228 lb-ft(310Nm) of torque at 2,600 rpm. This model goes from still to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds.
Diesel engines will be represented in five different models, two of them rear-wheel drive. The BMW X1 sDrive18d produces 143 horsepower and 236 lb-ft(320Nm) of torque at only 1,750 rpm. It runs from 0 to 62 mph in 9.6 seconds. The xDrive18d is powered by the same engine, but it’s a bit slower, 10.1 seconds.
Moving up in the class, the X1 sDrive20d outputs 177 horsepower and 258 lb-ft(350Nm) of torque at 1,750 rpm. 0 to 62 mph is achieved in 8.1 seconds. The all-wheel-drive version of the same model, xDrive20d, gets to 62 mph in 8.4 seconds.
The highest end X1 diesel model will be sold under the xDrive23d naming convention and produces 204 horsepower and 295 lb-ft(400Nm) of torque at 2,000 rpm. This is the second fastest X1 vehicle with 0 t0 62 mph in 7.3 seconds.
We’re waiting on the fuel consumption numbers who we expect to be quite impressive, so stay tuned for more information.
